Ashkan Baghestani is Sotheby’s head of sale and director for Contemporary and Middle Eastern Art. Fluent in English, French and Persian, he travels constantly throughout the Middle East region, and is well known for his immaculate sense of personal style.
The London-based art specialist and broker grew up in Geneva, Switzerland, before travelling to study and work in Paris and New York. He joined Sotheby’s Middle East Department in 2012, having been awarded their diploma in Middle Eastern Art the previous year.
Notable achievements of his career to date include heading Boundless: Dubai, the first international auction held in the emirate, and Alchemy: Objects of Desire, the first Iranian single-owner sale of works owned by collector and contemporary artist Fereydoun Ave.
